ARTIST: Allen Shamblin and Michael Reid
TITLE: I Can't Make You Love Me
Lyrics and Chords

A note on the rhythm. This song is not in 4/4, it's in a syncopated 8/8: 3/8 5/8. I'm too lazy to notate that on each bar, so the chords will still come in pairs. The first is 3 beats, the second is 5 beats. Until you get to the end of the verse, and the "no, you won't" part of the chorus, where it's plain 4/4 again. Because pianists hate guitar players. Or just listen to the song to get the timing. If you play in 4/4, every second chord will come in too early.

[Capo 3]

Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don't patronize
Don't patronize

/ C Em7 - C / C G Em7 Am7 / 1st / C G Em7 Am7 / G - D-Dsus4 DG /

{Refrain}
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark, in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no, you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't

/ C G C - / C G - C / Em7 G D Em7 / / Am7 - G D / C G - C Em7 C G Am7 - - /

I'll close my eyes, then I won't see
The love you don't feel when you're holding me
Morning will come and I'll do what's right
Just give me till then to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight

{Refrain}
