This is from a collection of recipes from books I own, but which I haven't myself tried yet. However, you can have faith that at least the authors themselves have tried them, so they're not deadly or anything.
Steep ginger in alcohol for 1 week, shaking occasionally. Strain and filter. Add sugar syrup. Mature for 1 to 6 months.
Optional flavorings: 1 cardamom seed; 1 clove; 1 pinch cinnamon; a few raisins; 1/2 teapoon almond extract.
