One of a set of three, this deck is the first of a collection of highlights from the NASCAR circuit since its creation in 1947. The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing contracted with Hoyle to put together this series, which is more celebration and promotion than education and history. But that's not to say the decks aren't educational. Each deck contains considerable historical information, including timelines for important events within NASCAR for the period, such as major corporate decisions, speedway openings, and automobile rules changes. The decks are sets of interesting facts and statistics, punctuated with fascinating pictures from historical races. The other two decks, being more recent, have more detailed information and modern pictures. It's certainly interesting looking at the development of the vehicles over the years.
A quick read through the deck is indeed an educational journey. The face cards and the tens are all race track maps; the fours through eights are all live race photographs; and the remaining cards are fact-cards, including champions in various categories through they years, statistics on winners, rules of NASCAR, and general history. I only wish there was a "map" to the photographs, giving year and trace. it would be nice to put them in a real chronological order, rather than just the order that seems to look best.
